Ben is an artist, a performer, a philosopher, an ethnologist, a linguist and a formidable art historian. At eighty-eight years of age, Benjamin Vautier’s critical eye on art is more acute than anyone else’s, starting with his own practice, analyzing society, politics and daily life.

Words are obviously the fundamental element of his artistic approach. Sometimes they stand on their own, sometimes they form a phrase, sometimes a question. His famous writings, with their often ironic and biting text, are mirrors of the soul in which the spectator enjoys recognizing himself, sometimes through his qualities, but more often through his weaknesses.
